Glass floating ?

Submitted byRonPW onSun, 03/24/2019 - 17:22

I just did the wet out phase,, I must have had too much epoxy. I did a sealer coat, It is now just tacky to the touch but I can feel a lot of areas were it feels like the glass mat is raised up, almost like it is a crease. It doesn't feel like there is air under the mat, it just won"t push down, feels solid. How do I proceed? Do I put on the next coat to fill the weave? or do I have to sand it all off?

Plywood warping

Submitted bytriad onSat, 03/02/2019 - 13:32

Its been a while since I’ve been on this forum but hello again. I feel the older version was easier to use but I should stop complaining and get with it.

Im currently building Eric’s Shearwater Hybrid 17 and I opted to cut my own hull pieces out of 4 mm marine plywood from Noahs Marine up here in Ontario, Canada. I’ve currently cut out and scarfed the pieces together over a couple months time. What I’m finding is the panels are warping and cupping. My hope is that after I stitch them together they will straighten.

What is the best paddle for my new boat

Submitted byjboyd90 onSun, 02/24/2019 - 16:55

Just picked up this kayak/canoe? I am a experienced kayaker. I picked up this bot for $100 a little while ago. Want to see what I can do with it in terms of multi day trips rather than my smaller kayak. Seems kind of like a hybrid, not sure what style paddle I should go with ex. traditional kayak double or a single canoe paddle. Any input is appreciated. I know its's ugly but I'm starting a family and its all my wife will let me play with right now. I expect to use it on rivers that in places have a nice 3mph current and in others wide w/ little to no current. Please advise, thanks.

Mahogany Kayak?

Submitted byRalph Merriman onSat, 02/23/2019 - 19:29

Hi All:

I was wondering if anyone out there has made a mahogany stripper.  I have made a number of strip kayaks, all from WRC.  I have several nice mahogany planks sitting in my garage and I have been wondering if I should try making a strip kayak, with the strips 1/8 thick.

Has anyone made this work, or am I dooming myself to endless frustration?

Thanks,

Ralph

Little Auk hatch

Submitted byCobblestone onTue, 02/19/2019 - 14:21

Hi,

Im building the 10' Little Auk.  I am almost completed with the stripping. I am having difficulty understanding the diagram in the plans for the cockpit opening?  I would like to use a recessed cockpit, stripping the other way for contrast, but I'm also having problems determining the layout out of the recessed area, and the cockpit area.  This is my first build, and if anybody could help that would be great- even a photo of a completed little auk would help.

Thanks,

Chuck

Glacier Bay - Alaska

Submitted bySharli onMon, 01/28/2019 - 19:44

I was wondering if anyone has tested the self-made kayaks in some weather conditions like in the Glacier Bay.

I found an article about Glacier Bay in Alaska and I am fascinated to do such a trip, If possible with a self-made watercraft.

I like the iqyax design, but do not have the right drawings. If anyone can assist I will appreciate it.
