hatch gaskets with magnetic closures
I got some magnets for doing magnetic closures on my hatches but I'm wondering how the experts install their gaskets. Any suggestions?

I know that I can get Pawlonia at Goose Bay Lumber in New Hampshire. It took nearly 3 hours to get there, and I was slightly disappointed at what they had in stock-mostly short lengths, and it looked like it had been in the rain a couple of years. I'd use something else, if I could find a good-looking light weight similar wood.
Folks,
I can use some help.
I have a Sea Eagle 385FT inflatable kayak. I want to make some type of covering to cover the portion of the kayak in front of me above my legs when I paddle so that my legs will stay dry. I don't care about this in the summer - dripping water off the paddles keeps me cool - but I want to be on the water in the fall when the water temp is colder and I want to stay as dry and warm as possible at that time.
In a thread about skegs, Howard said:
....the basic approach is 3/16 red cedar with 4 oz s glass inside and out, internal seam kevlar taped.....
I haven't used Kevlar seam tape, but I've noticed in a few commercial boats that have used it, that the tape doesn't wet at all clear and it looks like it's more difficult to get the edges to lie flat, compared to glass taped boats from the same company (Mariner Kayaks Seattle).
Does anybody have experience working with Kevlar seam tape?
hi all,
its been a while and i am working on a new project....a 90% frej (15 ft length and 19 inches beam) that i am trying to build up very light for my wife.
the basic approach is 3/16 red cedar with 4 oz s glass inside and out, internal seam kevlar taped, keyhole cockpit and a target weight fully rigged of 22 lbs.
given the hull form, it looks pretty important to have a skeg and wanted to see if anybody had suggestions for good plans that are easy to build or a well constructed skeg that can be bought/installed.
Hi. I have been poring over lots of kayak building videos and all the information i can for the endeavor of building my own. I have decided to build the S&G guillemont, not only because the plans are free but what amazing kayaks nick schade has built and the experience he has developing small craft. I hope to use it for some weekend excursions. So the final details i have questions about are :
1) what thickness plywood can be used for this kayak?
2) can wood flour be used for thickening the epoxy on scarf joints?
Hi,
Not sure if anyone on this board has any information on Caillou Kayak's and their value. I have the opportunity to purchase one, but really can't fine to much information on their value. Any help would be fantastic.

Hello everybody,
I'm Brazilian and only found info to build a SOF in English and Spanish, I am facing difficulties in finding the recommended material, sometimes because no one sells locally, other times because I am lost in translation. So I have two questions:
Thanks in advance,
Pedro
A couple weeks ago I took time out from other projects to do some quick maintenance on a few a my kayaks. I had a broken back band, worn out gasket and a big ding to deal with. The video is below.
Probably of most interest to people is dealing with the beat up bottom of my Petrel Play SG. This boat has a single layer of glass on the bottom, doubled up only on the keel line. I take this boat to play in rock gardens where the surge sometimes drops me hard on pointy rocks.
I wondered if anyone has built eiter of these designs: Redfish "Silver" of Laughing Loon "Disko Bay"?
