You can remove hot glue beads with a heavy scraper and low angle of attack, however unless you really put your weight on the scraper and follow through with the stroke you run the risk of the scraper hopping over the hot glue bead and gouging the wood on the other side.
A low scraper angle (which is the normal way a scraper is used on wood) will pull up on the hot glue bead which the hot glue will resist and can pull out a chunk of wood with the bead, or worse, hop over the bead and gouge the wood surface.
Hot glue is best removed with a blow, the shock of which, makes the hot glue release cleanly. So if the scraper (the heavier the better) is held with the handle very high, almost perpendicular to the surface, the scraper edge is used like a hammer to knock off the hot glue cleanly off.
