: I've seen several folks write about using a "longboard" for sanding
: and fairing hulls, paddles, etc. I have a mental picture of what a
: "longboard" must look like but haven't seen one, haven't found
: one in a catalog or website and only get blank stares when I ask at local
: hardware stores. Can anyone point me to a place I can buy one or to plans
: to build one?

The ones I have seen and heard of vary in size but are usually just a piece of 3/8" or 1/2" plywood with 'handles' attached to them at the far ends. The handles are pieces of 2 x 2 or whatever fits your hand well. The width of the longboard is usually 4" or however wide your sandpaper is. The length is usually 16" up to 24"

You attach sandpaper to one side, grasp the handles and sand in a rocking motion. They work very well.
