Paddle blades

Hi all;
I am making some european style paddles using the tecnique detailed in Nick's book and am ready to attach the blade halves to the shaft.

Since the blades were cut concave, when the edges are placed on a flat surface as if being mounted to the shaft, the blades do not sit perpendicular to the surface, but rather lay at an angle close to 87 degrees to the back side of the blade. This will result in a blade which is slightly "V" shaped with the pointed end of the "V" toward the concave blade face.

Is this right or do I need to take down the edges enough to make the blades flat?

Doug
