11' x 18' Shop Space

I have a Woodshop that is about 11x18. Really it's just a wide single car garage. I'm considering making a 17-18 foot Kayak. Am I just asking for trouble working in such a small work area? I'd move to the basement for the duration of my construction, but the finished basement is my kids play room.

Also, could someone provide me with a gerneral list of tools I might need to make a basic yak? $$'s are tight and I may not be able to order the wood if I also have to put another $150 - $200 in tools. How many clamps am I going to need?

Thanks for all your help
