Hi Charlie, Ted's method works very well for his designs which have a sharp angle between the hull and deck. I have used this method to build a few of his designs and the two pieces (deck & hull) fit back together perfectly. Sheer clamps do add a bit of weight to the boat but they can be made from cedar to minimize the weight penalty.
