S&G: 3mm hull and 6 oz glass?

OK, did a search and did a lot of reading of past posts last night. Looks like another controversial area here. I seem to be stirring the pot with my questions but that is not the intent. But here goes.

After reading last night and reading about Kyle T's 3mm hull on his tandems, I have about decided on 3mm ply for the hulls on the two I am about to build. (Unless Kyle says the hulls failed?? I never found a follow up on the tandems) I am thinking 6oz glass on the outside. Extra strip along the bow and possible the keel line. 4 oz glass on the inside cockpit area only. More for wear reasons than for additional hull strength. No cloth inside the hatches. Just a coat to seal the wood and then white paint to brighten it up.

As a reminder. These are plywood hulls and strip decks. Used on lakes and rivers, no big ocean type waves. No danger of crashing down on top of rocks. Bumping into them, yea. That will happen.

Anyone have a good reason that this is a bad idea? The lighter weight is a big plus for me.
