This is just a start as there are all sorts of specialty tools for this kind of job out there if you dig a bit.

The hand held steel scrapers that are shaped like a French Curve are very usefull as they present a decreasing radius arc that can fit virtually any hull curvature.

My scraper set includes several of these scraper steels in small to large sizes for different hulls. There's another set that mounts to the front of a handle to give your hands a break when your thumbs get smoked.
