The Dam Method of End Pours *PIC*

Just to give people an idea about how I'm currently doing "end pours". I make a dam out of an old plastic squeegee.

This gets taped in place. I place the dam as close to the end as I can so I have enough room for a grab-loop hole and maybe 1/2" extra.

I then mix up a very thick mixture of epoxy and phenolic microballoons.

and put it in a ziplock or piping bag and fill the end volume and a little extra to match the deck shape.

When it cures the dam pops out

I drill the hole.

Clean up the top.

When I install the deck I butter up the top.

And secure the deck.

The result weighs next to nothing, is very strong, impervious to water, and is extremely easy to do.

I still feel the stand-on-end endpour has its place as a viable solution in some situations. The cedar block is also a reasonable solution, but for the reasons I explained in my other post, I am more comfortable with epoxy than wood for long term survivability in less than ideal boat care situations.
