Strip: Update on beveling learning curve *PIC*

I posed the question a few weeks ago about build methods. I really appreciate all the information from that post. (original post: http://www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/index.cgi/md/read/id/221350/sbj/strip-bevel-or-bead-and-cove-learning-curve/ After reading all the pros and cons of the bevel vs bead and cove building I decided to try the beveling. I am pleased with the results, but not my speed. I would like to have had more strips cut to be more selective of the wood colors. I chose some dark and light boards, but should have gotten more there were closer in color.

1. Equal strip thickness helps. Some of my strips are a little thicker than others and spring clamps are not great at holding the thinner piece. I will be much more careful the next time i cut strips.

2. I tried to book match and scarf some of my strips and getting both ends to align and staggering my scarf is not working as well as I would like. I am sanding an 8 to 1 bevel on my disk sander with a fence. I think I need a different scarfing jig that will allow me to cut both strips together so the alignment doesn't shift.

3. After trying several types of painters tape I have started using bicycle inner tube strips to add pressure clamping the strips together. I am getting better results faster. I especially like taking them off. Release the clamp and put the strip in pocket. No search for a corner that will lift up and no ball of tape.
