If it IS the Guillemot: As you probably already know, the forms are in two pieces so that you can strip past the recess for continuity. You then break off the top of the forms, cut out and strip the recess. I had to dig the book out and check... The offsets give the points on the forms. The highest point is the top of the form. At the bottom of the chart is an point for the location of the cockpit recess (ie the break-away point). You'll see that that point is an inch or so lower than the highest point. From the book (page 54 of my copy at least):

"..The bottom two rows define the edge of the cockpit recess. Draw the deck around to this point and then horizontally across to the centerline."

It was my first kayak... 7 years and 15+ boats ago. Wow, what a flashback.

Hope that clears up some of the confusion (and didn't make it worse).
