Strip: coaming riser construction

Hello everyone happy new year!

I have just finished glueing all the two inch coaming riser strips onto the deck of my guillemot. The question is what is the next logical step my thoughts are epoxy fillet around the outside edge and inside edge of thigh braces, sand the riser strips smooth inside and out, and then... from what I have read fiberglass the riser strips and then form the ring for the coaming, sand and fiberglass the whole thing again.
Do I need to glass the riser strips before bending the coaming ring? My thinking is that once the ring is on the whole thing gets glass anyway. I will be using walnut for the ring fresh out of the steam box my pieces are 1/4 x 1/4 and plan on doing three thick for three quarters of a lip. Should I run them though a planer to say an eighth?

Thanks
dave g
