In Response To: Epoxy: Epoxy contact on skin (Clayton Plunkett)

: Hi everyone,
: I was glassing the inside of my deck last weekend when I felt a
: snag on my gloves. I looked and I had a hole in my glove and
: pulled them off and had epoxy on my hand. I went in the house
: and all I had to wash with was Dawn detergent. I washed and
: scrubed well and went on and finished the job.
: What is the best cleaner for this type of skin contact? Was the
: dawn OK or should I have a different cleaner ready for emergency
: clean up? I wanted to post this so others would get this
: information and be better prepaired than I was.
: Thanks,
: Clayton Plunkett

That old lava soap with the gritty particles (pumice) is good for removing the epoxy from your skin. Wash with cold water.
Hot water will open your pores allowing more epoxy to be absorbed.

The thing that scares me about epoxy, aside from sensitization and allergic reaction, is that the major constituent of
epoxy resin is Bisphenol-A. BPA is thought to be a scary endocrine disruptor. (artificial estrogen) Treat it with respect
and avoid entirely to the extent possible.
