I would avoid wax as a lube for cutting strips, the wax may interfer with later epoxy/glue application.

Heavy guage angle iron can make an excellent fence extension. It stays straight, doesn't bend easily and doesn't flop about.
An out-feed table helps as well to steady the timber. Just put a couple of guide blocks on it so the timber and the cut off strip don't move about much horizontally.
You can also have an extended fence extend along the infeed table/support for greater stability.
