Thanks for the kind words! :-)

I used a 3/4" wide gasket strip for the molding, and chamfered the edges to 45 degrees with a razor blade. With a bunch of razor blades, actually; I used old fashioned double-edged safety razor blades. They're still being sold, to who besides fly tiers I cannot guess, and are not expensive. It's a tedious thing to do, but pays dividends.

The gasket in actual use is 1/4" wide.

Don't feel silly if you're having trouble grasping what's going on here; I had fits with it myself, believe me. The important thing is to build carefully. I'm not the most painstaking builder, but this a great place to do everything right. When it's all done well, you just can't believe how little hold-down pressure is required to make very good seals. I won't make any claims to 100% watertight, but accumulating less than a cup of water over an afternoon of ocean bashing with generous rolling fun thrown in suits me pretty well.

: Kurts site is always a helpful one and this page on his site is
: just what you are looking for, only thing missing is the size of
: the first and final gaskets. Also on this page kurt makes a
: reference to one ocean kayak page you should definetly check out
: the wealth of info in the building pages on that site.
