In Response To: Strip: stripped deck (Martin Jordan)

: Hello,
: I’m currently building a kayak with a stripped deck. Here’s my
: question: is there any structural relevance for sheer strips?
: Starting with the kingplanks and working down to the sheer seems
: to save a lot of work. I usually paint about one inch of the
: deck above the sheer line continuously with the hull.
: Thanks for your help,

Hi Martin

The answer is no. Capturing longitudinal deck strips with curved strips at the edge of the deck is more of a design convention. It may be more fiddly, but it looks sooo good.
