Many people when they first start looking at kayaks look at doubles, most though don't use them anywhere nearly as often as they'd use two singles. Before I'd spend the time building a fairly complex boat I'd spend some serious time paddling rental boats at minimum if not your own to make sure you're choosing what you really want.
