Aside from the previous example, the rise of iron ship construction in the 1840s, 50s & 60s show all manner of framing combinations including ‘fuselage’ types while using an attached iron skin.

As an aside:
A completely different but interesting frame setup for us here, is Egyptian 12th dynasty (say 2,000 BC) framing of a working ship (not a ceremonial one as commonly known from the tombs).
This is not exactly skin construction in that the boat is built shell (outside) first before the framing is added, but the wood shell pieces are tenoned to each other to sort of act like a skin in use – and some sort of framing is required in order to keep shape. The framing as discovered in Lisht is as shown below - taken at a rigid (but pieced) frame location:

Does anyone who builds using an internal strongback, recognize anything familiar?
