Thank you all very much for your thoughts. We live in Christchurch and it is great to have the support from so many people both local and international. Our family is safe but in a city this size everyone knows someone who is missing or deceased. Our house is mostly ok, although it still has no power, water or sewerage, so we've moved elsewhere in the city for the time being.

It has been quite surreal. Just now I saw it on tv for the first time - up until now we have had only radio and personal experiences from colleagues, etc. To actually see the devastation wrought on the city is very upsetting. We feel very fortunate.

Regards, Ian
