Hi Stephen,

I did mine with a pull saw to cut the recess edge and then I used a Shinto rasp to remove the wood.
Any rasp will do, you can grind it off slowly and check often for fit with the strips.
I try to stay away from that belt sander, It will take so much wood away so fast that you could end up with a big oops.
This one is not finished, I just attached deck and hull. Lots of work left to do.
