: I made my first GP using Brian Nystrom's excellent book. I was
: wondering if I could add the 50/50 mixture of tung oil and
: varnish that is described in the book over an already cured tung
: oil surface? Thanks alot.

I should mention, Brian will not like this , that I've done this and it works. I've used Watco oil (varnish/oil finish) over a paddle that had tung oil on it, but I used 00 steel wool first to remove most of the oil then followed up with 0000 steel wool to smooth it, applied the Watco then after it set re-applied the tung oil, I like the tung oil finish on my hands better. For me at least, specially since during the season my GP lives in the car, the finish holds up better this way. I'm not saying it's the perfect way to finish a paddle, just works for me. Btw, don't want to use sandpaper on a paddle after it's got it's final sanding, just makes the surface fuzzy, the steel wool cuts the fuzz off the way sandpaper can't.
