: I agree completely, using the glue that doesn't bond to wood just
: makes a mess, won't hold well enough to do much of anything.

: I've had minor tear out, usually when I used way too much glue, hey
: it happens :) But usually as you said the hot glue just breaks
: off cleanly.

Here is a picture from Rocklers website of the Titebond HiPurformer Polyurethane glue gun, a $131 hot glue applicator which does a great job (according to most of the reviews) with applying polyurethane-based hot-melt glues. It uses proprietary glue cartridges, not the common glue sticks. It is made by the same company which produces Titebond liquid glue, and it is designed for making permanent glue bonds in construction applications. The adhesive is sold in a cartridge for about $12.50, and it is designed for a high srength, permanent bond. The various versions of the available glues have different open times and strengths.

However--We don't want something which will give us as good a bond as this tool can provide. We want the cheaper glue sticks. We want the temporary bonds to work as clamps. And then, with the swat of a hammer and a mumbled word, they should disappear! The HiPurformer type of hot glue applicator is too good for our humble needs. We are not looking for our hot-melt bonds to be permanent. Our permanent bonds will be from liquid glues or epoxies.

In comparison, we truly do want the lower-quality version. At least, that is my opinion. Comments are always welcome.
