I think it's easier when you do it on a SOF coaming, because you're only bending the wood in one plane, and then the whole coaming bends when you sew the skin to it. On a strip or other kayak, you have to make your wood bend in two planes, and it just doesn't want to do that. To be honest, I'm always surprised when people make it actually work.
