The gasket material is pretty spongy, it tends to form itself back together. I just use the glue on the weatherstrip, though I supose that contact cement would glue the two halves together as you've drawn. Mine don't leak enough that I'd worry about. By the time I get to that point I wanna paddle and quit playing with the building ;)
