In Response To: Skin-on-Frame: Skin/Coating Ranking - aka - "Skin Score" (Justin)

What is this based on? long-term durability? Sandy beach launches? Scraping over rocks? Landing on oysters? Mildew resistance? Scrape resistance? Puncture resistance? Should the amount the person actually paddles the kayak be taken into account? For instance- you could say that you used nylon and spar varnish, and it's held up great for 6 years, but only have paddled it a dozen times each season, or you could have replaced a skin coated with Goop after one season after paddling 5 days a week. Also- what type of paddling are we talking about here? Are we talking about rolling sessions on a pond, an easy float down a river, or rock gardening? What is your intended use for the kayak? If you're going to practice rolling a few times a month in it what you would coat it with would be a lot different than what you'd probably use if you were going to paddle it hard in actual open water conditions.

If you were to specify what you intended to use the kayak for, it might be easier to come up with recommendations/ranking.
