West Greenland Kayak Building
6 - 15 July 2011

At Trill Farm, Musbury, Devon - run by Boat Building Academy, Lyme Regis.

West Greenland kayaks are made to measure to fit the kayaker and are constructed in traditional skin-on-frame style, held together with wooden dowels and synthetic sinew.

The dimensions of the Kayak will depend on the paddler, the kayak you see pictured on our website is 17 foot 4 inches long and weighs 14kg. Ballistic Nylon is the modern alternative to seal skin and canvas. It is light, durable and has an aesthetically pleasing translucent finish.

On the course students will be involved in all aspects of the build from cutting and lashing to sewing and steam bending - for a comprehensive view of the building process see the photographic diary on our website or contact us. You will take away a fully finished kayak and paddle at the end of the course.
