Strip: Attaching Hull/Deck

Hi all,

I'm nearing completion of stripping the deck on my night heron HYBRID and had some questions on attaching the hull to the deck. I decided when laying that first shear strip, not to bevel the hull-side edge flat. I have reasons, hopefully they were good ones; thats where you come in. I thought that rather than struggling to both twist the first shear strip and get the bevel on the bottom correct i'd deal with one problem at a time and not bevel. My assumption is that i'd be able to flip the deck over and just hold the plane horizontal and shave off enough to flatten out the shear strips all the way around. Has anyone tried this method before, i'm kind of making it up, but maybe i'll get lucky and its an already proven method? Any other thoughts or potential concerns?

Thanks
Damian
