It probably means that the glue was completely absorbed by the wood. Remember, you're dealing with a lot of exposed end grain in a scarf.

Poly glues need moisture to cure, but you generally don't need to add any, as there is moisture in the wood and the air, which is sufficient unless you live in a desert. You don't want or need to see foam in a joint, as it indicates a gap, which is a problem.

That's the key, a tight joint. Regardless of the type of glue you use, a tight joint is a better joint. Also, increasing the scarf length to 12:1 will provide more gluing surface and create a stronger joint.

Last, but not least, make sure the joint is fully cured before you put any stress on it. At low temps, it takes longer.
