I'm with you. Scarfing fine, but what's pretty got to do with it :) Once the skin's on, you'll never see it again.

I've scarfed and butted, butt (pun intended) I put this method in the manual as it was easier for
builders ( me included) and I've never heard of one breaking. Like Bill says, place the joint as
far aft or forward as possible to utilize the straightest line of the stringer.

Regarding gluing a scarf or butt / plate ... why use anything other than epoxy ?
