: I'm heading out too the Father In Law's this weekend to see about
: getting a piece of freshly fallen hemlock for rib material. Will

: Assuming of course I can split an 8-9 foot log of hemlock, get it
: squared off, and convert a portion into a board, will it work
: for bending for ribs?

Socrates was executed by being obliged to take hemlock.

You will know if you have been poisoned by hemlock because you will slowly become paralyzed from the feet upward. You will be fully conscious with all your faculties until your lungs shut down and you suffocate.

Before he died Socrates is said to have defied his executioners by saying, "You can kill me but you can't hold me."

I don't know if the wood is poisonous. It may just be the root or the leaves. It may b e a good idea to use a dust-mask though, just to be on the safe side.
