In Response To: Strip: Heat gun use in a dusty shop (Stephen Troy)

: The shop I am stripping in has a pretty good amount of sawdust in
: it most of the time. I started using a heat gun today to bend
: strips for the tail of the baidarka I'm building, and looking at
: the background of the path of the heat gun looked like it could
: be a fire hazard.

: Any guidelines of safe heat gun use when it comes to being in a
: area with lot of flammables?

Stand outside the shop and look at it . . . envision it burned to the ground with it's contents and your tools and if your house is attached maybe that too . . . . now clean the shop :)) This is a sore subject with me. I lost a 40' sq. shop, a $40,000 airplane I had worked on for 5 years and all my tools, a sad day:(( I now have a main dust collector connected to all my power tools, dust collector filters hanging from the ceiling to pick up airborne and I totally clean the shop at least once a month. Every lesson I have ever learned has cost me big money or big heartache - - this one was both. . .
