Hi Malcolm,
The problem is that it does not conform well to compound contours unless vacuum bagged I see it used most often in vacuum bagging. Also to leave a smooth inside seam. May be handy to have a little around for small patches or flat projects. If you tried to get it to lay down on your boards you would end up with some resin rich areas at the edges where it doesn't lay down and that would be more work than fill coating and sanding. One of the big advantages of it is that it leaves a finely textured surface that you can bond to without sanding or with a little sanding you have a uniform surface for finishing. So I guess the short answer is, it depends. Another downside is that it gets used once and thrown away.
