Paddle: Laminating blanks

I periodically have down time in the shop waiting around for something to happen cure/set or a tool to become available, and it seemed smarter to have a side project or two to work on instead of sitting around. I picked up some cheap clear 2x2x8' boards yesterday, and was going to assemble some paddle blanks.

Any good resources on doing this? I'm aware of grain considerations, and I've seen Ross's description on his site. I'm wondering if there is anything to worry about with regards to glue, dimensions, etc., or any shortcuts.
