: Last year I built my 11yr old son a Yost Sea Pup. It turned out
: pretty well but i think i inadvertently build a little more
: rocker than intended. Nonetheless, i've had it out for an
: afternoon and it is quick boat to paddle turns easily but
: initial stability seems a bit of an issue. Anyway my son has
: been out in it several times but he finds it scares him
: sometimes and it has gotten to the point that he doesn't really
: want to go out in it. The last thing I want to do is have the
: poor little guy scared. I realize that taking him to a nice warm
: beach sometime to practice wet exits and give him an opportunity
: to get a feel for the stability might help, but at this point
: i'm wondering if there might be a better design for him (ie more
: initial stability). Any ideas? Also, would the increased rocker
: have a negative effect on the stability?

The increased rocker is likely the problem, he's likely not a heavyweight so the boat doesn't displace alot, so sits up higher than designed with the extra rocker, the ends then don't contribute to the stability as designed. Depending on how it's built, there is a real chance to be able to just fix it, though will require recovering.
