I've been using the 'Hamm' method, with 3.2 Thayercraft and RAKA epoxy - no problems whatsoever, and in fact, laying the cloth on the bias, I've required virtually no splitting on the stems; I use a badger hair varnish brush to smooth out the cloth before I ever start with the epoxy; let it 'rest' a bit, then start wetting out. If you don't have a good drape before you start, it only gets worse once you're 'under the gun' and committed to wetting out. Preparation is key!
