I used to think I was living a meaningful and fruitful life/fantasy, but as I get older, and I see what aging has done to my parents, I sometimes have a moment of panic that I am wasting time and have not pinned down my task for this life. Is living a happy life, being famous only amongst one's friends, enough to leave behind for posterity? Maybe a little dissatisfaction, struggle and discomfort gets one off one's complacent ass and is a goad to achieving a useful legacy.

On the other hand, perhaps it is enough to love one's family, joke around and give doubtful advice on kayak building forums, and build the occasional toy boat. The only really useful byproducts of excessive overachievement by societies driven by competition that I can easily identify being: epoxy resin and the ROS.

In the end though, isn't it all about communicating and brotherhood? Well siblinghood really, Joy and Violet being honorary brothers. And what a brilliant medium this forum and group of friends is to achieving that in its own very civilized and gentle way.

If anyone feels this is off topic I would draw your attention to the subject: Head, heart or wallet. It is only the wallet I have not addressed.

My mother in law is visiting at the moment and I have not seen much of my wife Pam in the last few weeks as they have been out and about. Hence the messing around on the forum in the last little while, and now the introspection. Usually, as you all well know, I am exceedingly shallow.
