Since it seems a coat of protection is a good idea

How about a coat of oil based paint? I have not put the deck on yet so it would be easy to apply. The paint I have is white rustoleum, so I thought it might make it easier to find little things that roll away in the hatch.

How long does the fiberglass need to cure before this coat of varnish or paint?
