The wood on one of two kayaks was sealed before I glassed. There is no difference between the two as far as the deterioration has occured. This has not happened on any of my other kayaks or a canoe where I varnished the interior. The existing glass is still very tight to the wood and nothing has pealed off. It is almost as if the epoxy has broken down or "evaporated", which it can't do of course. The extra epoxy is just to give it some more thickness (to prevent wear) and to prevent water getting through the now thinner glass, until I bite the bullet and replace it.
