How long do you want it to last? While I have never used popular in a boat, I have always heard and read it was not suitable for any outdoor use. It just rots to easy. Even if you take care of your boat the popular is going to get wet and water between the frame and skin is not going to dry out fast.

Bottom line, listen to what you are being told.
