: Howdy;
: I have started building a greenland style SOF kayak and am getting
: some static about useing poplar for the gunnals. Is there any
: good reason to not use it?

: Thanks
: Danny

Seward's Boatbuilding Manual says not to use it. Very poor rot resistance. Not too many woods rate as very poor. Are you looking for a less expensive alternative to standard woods? Where do you live?
