"I think" any good quality oil based paint would be fine. If I want a color that has to be mixed I just ask for their best Porch and Deck enamel. I like Rustoleum, but it is not the only thing I use.

I tried a latex but was not too impressed. Harder to apply and not as tough as oil based by any means! It works fine, I just didn't care for it. Mine is a year old and I really need to touch it up now. But I will say it doesn't leak even with all the marks on the hull.

I roll mine on with a narrow roller, then go over it with a foam brush to even out the paint. Goes pretty quickly that way. I always thin the first coat so that it will soak into the polyester well. That way the inside of the boat has a more even color to it and doesn't look blotchy. If you don't thin it you end up with the inside of the cockpit part color, part white skin and a lot of shades in between.
