Over here edge-naled strippers always have steam-bent ribs. This method only applied to full size boat hulls because the strips had to be meaty enough to retain all the nails.
Stripper canoes used strips that were both ship-lapped and tapered. They weren't edge-nailed because they were assembled over a mold. Each strip contained only a single small clinch-nail where it passed over a rib. The method is rather involved. I thnk that's why nobody does it any more. A 16 foot canoe would have have as many as 80 ribs to which more than 50 strips have to be nailed.
