Nick,

There is no hard and fast rule about how many stations are used to build a boat. My Black Pearl (19' 6" long) only had 12 stations, roughly 17-7/8th inches on center. Stations 12" apart is only for convenience. As long as the stations align with the lofting you should have no problems. Actually, with some boats stations further apart make it a little easier, depending on the lines.
