Ditto. If it were me, I'd just cut the entire coaming off at deck level. Make the necessary changes to the rear of the cockpit, i.e., cut further back towards the bulkead, and replace the coaming riser/lip with a new one. Should be a pretty simple job, if you ask me.

This is the beauty of S&G - espcially if you opt to paint the boat. You can cut out and replace pretty easily. And paint does a wonderous job of masking any alterations.

I just build Duane Strosaker's Point Bennett - a S&G. I've made a number of changes to my cockpit setup already and you'd never be able to tell.

On another point, who'd leave 5" between your cockpit coaming and the aft bulkhead?? That must be a real SOB to dump the water out of - especially when you try to do it alone while in the water. My Point Bennett has leass than 1" between the rear of the coaming and the bulkhead. I can lift the boat out of the water, while I'm floating, and drain it completely with one quick lift of the bow. Very useful for self-rescues.

Just my 2 cents.

Sean
