: Glass on the underside of the lip?

: You don't need glass on the underside of the lip? What style
: coaming and lip are you planning? If you build the Nick style
: stacked strip coaming with bent wood for the lip, all you need

The instructions that I have seen for building the coaming lip (I think from both of the books I have on the subject, but I do not have them in front of me right now) boil down to build the coaming riser, glass one side of the riser, trim the riser, glass the other side of the riser, cover the riser with cellophane, bend the lip, remove the lip, shape the lip, glass the lip (and that is where I have the problem getting the glass to stick to the underside of the lip). I have even seen pointers on bent brushes to get the glass to stick....

Sounds like I could use a hardwood like ash or cherry in thin strips for the lip and only glass the top of the lip. On the last boat, I used alternating strips of cedar and cherry. I heated the strips in a steam shower, and the bending was quite easy.
