...that the world does indeed revolve around kayak building. I just got a layoff notice today ending a career that lasted almost 5-years in a gas chromatography laboratory. Now y'all might think that this is sad news but I knew it was coming. I had the option of taking a lower paying job outside the laboratories but I knew I wouldn't be happy doing that so I took the layoff. I developed a plan of attack for my uncertain future and decided that I needed to get my resume out there into the cyber world so I put my writing and cut-and-paste skills to work to create a good read for a prospective employer. That done, I posted my resume all over the Internet and waited while I worked my final days with little or no will to be a productive techie. Last week someone bit and I wangled a phone interview. Two days later I got another phone interview. The first guy (huge analytical contract company) offered me his highest pay scale (lower than my current rate of pay) but baited me by offering me a decent future if I proved my worth. I haven't heard back from the second interviewer yet but when I do, I will definitely go check them out (huge global chemical company). I accepted the offer from the first guy since he wasted no time in calling me back to make the offer. I will get training from this company that could lead to a nice retirement if I choose to do so when I am 65 (not likely since I like to work). The deal I am bargaining for is a start date that allows me two weeks to work on my S&G Night Heron before I fly north to start work. Linda and I will have our wedding pictures taken with her new kayak and my refinished Night Heron. Imagine Linda sitting on the ocean in her kayak with a wedding dress on, 12 foot long wedding veil trailing over the water and yours truely sitting in his while wearing a Georgio tux. All things start with a nice kayak and my new employer will understand that or have an arguement on his hands.
