Now it makes sense - The frame (un)bent, as opposed to the strips. How long did you let the frame stay bent before you took it off of whatever jig you used to bend it?

You may want to put it in a hot, wet environment (steam shower, or a hot regular shower if you don't have access to a steam shower) and re-bend it. You may be able to wet it and heat it with a heat gun, but the peice is fairly large. Any way to take it apart and bent the smaller frame peices individually? If you leave it attahced to the frame for several days you may have better luck. There is a seperat thread on bending wood that you may want to take a look at.
