last pic

: First kayak, first coaming. A few notes:
: 1. used leftover cedar strip material for riser, 2 1/4" long,
: 1/4" thick, 1/2" wide; not bead and cove, fit each
: piece with a stanley low angle block plane
: 2. glued together using CA glue (p10-s - thick from Fastcap); took
: 4 hours from strip cutting to done
: 3. Ring is 5/8" wide by 1/8" thick laminations of Ash, 4
: layers, again using CA glue
: 4. bending done with heat gun - worked GREAT! (fit, heat, bend
: section, clamp, cool, glue, clamp; REPEAT)
: 5. sanding took almost as much time as building

: Few notes: if you haven't used professional CA (Cyanoacralyte)
: glue, try it. I am a woodworker with a complete shop but want to
: get in the water asap, so wanted to get done. The downside is
: cost: Titebond 3 is cheap. A large bottle of P10 s from
: woodcraft is $38. I used 1/6th of the bottle. Well worth the
: investment: I went from a hole in a boat to ready for glass in 2
: evenings. If you try it remember to by accelerant (makes it
: harden instantly) and release agent (to get it off your
: fingers!).

: Test fit my Kokatat medium spray skirt - it is tight and taut.

: Seat is a redfish kayaks custom - fit perfectly.

: Next: hatch rings + magnets= good times.
