I'm sorry but I don't agree. The Walrus seems to have less than typical volume at the ends and a fair bit of rockker too both of which will lower it in the water, thereby lowering the CoG. This would in part restore some stability lost to the narrow beam. But you're right about the dramatic effect of reducing beam, it has about 3 times more effect on stability than length. A fairly small, light person would be fine in that boat: me - not so good.
